# Trello integration

Create Trello cards from feedback, using an API key, a token, and a list id.

**Pro and above.** Setup needs three values.

## Connect [#connect]

<Steps>
  <Step>
    ### Get an API key and token [#get-an-api-key-and-token]

    Go to the [Trello Power-Up admin](https://trello.com/power-ups/admin), create a
    Power-Up (or open an existing one), and generate an **API key**. From that page,
    follow the token link to authorise it and generate a **token**.

    The key identifies the integration; the token grants access to your boards.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Find the list id [#find-the-list-id]

    The list id is the column cards should land in — not the board id.

    Open the board, click into a card in the target list, and add `.json` to the
    URL. The response includes `idList`. Alternatively, use the Trello API's board
    endpoint to list the board's lists and their ids.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Connect in Annot8 [#connect-in-annot8]

    **Integrations** in the sidebar → **Trello** → enter the API key, token, and
    list id → **Connect**, then **Test**.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    ### Choose which projects use it [#choose-which-projects-use-it]

    A new connection is on for every project. Switch Trello off under **Project →
    Integrations** for any project that shouldn't use it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What gets created [#what-gets-created]

Every new thread on an enabled project creates a card in that list, named
`[Feedback] <comment>`, with the author, the comment, and a link to the page in
the description.

<Callout type="warn">
  This fires on every thread. Point it at an **Inbox** list and let a Trello
  Butler rule move cards from there.
</Callout>

## Different lists per project [#different-lists-per-project]

Trello doesn't support per-project overrides — the workspace connection posts
to one list. Under **Project → Integrations** you can turn Trello off for
projects that shouldn't post there, and a Trello Butler rule can move cards
onward from the intake list.

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

**401 "invalid key" or "invalid token".** The key and token are separate values
and easy to swap. The key is short; the token is long. Tokens can also be
revoked from your Trello account settings.

**400 "invalid value for idList".** You've used a board id rather than a list
id, or the list was archived. Archived lists reject new cards.

**Cards land in the wrong column.** The list id decides the column, not the
board. Grab the id from a card that's already in the column you want.
